Hamburg, 11 November 2024 - Hamburg Media School and MOIN Film Fund's GetOnSet programme has entered its third year with 14 new film trainees. The practice-oriented training on the film set and in post production offers career changers an optimal entry into the film industry and actively promotes more diversity. This is demonstrated by the anonymous application process and the high demand. Once again, over 180 applications were received.

Go to the cinema as often as you like: this is now possible with two new cinema subscriptions from Film-Norden. The Cineville card from Hamburg offers unlimited access to the entire film programme of many cinemas throughout Germany from 20 euros per month. The provider Cinfinity from Schleswig-Holstein will be launched later this year. Both projects were supported by the MOIN Film Fund.

With 20 MOIN-funded productions at Filmfest Hamburg, there is something for everyone: binge-watchers can look forward to six episodes of "Schwarze Früchte", young film fans can immerse themselves in astronomical adventures and cineastes can enjoy numerous award-winning premieres. Culture Senator Dr Carsten Brosda presented the Hamburg Cinema Awards 2024 at the traditional Koralle cinema in Volksdorf on Wednesday evening. The prizes, worth a total of 100,000 euros, went to 15 arthouse and district cinemas. A special prize was also awarded to "A Wall is a Screen", which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2023.

The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will take place this year from 8 to 24 November. MOIN Film Fund is represented at this year's Venice Film Festival from 28 August to 7 September with three funded productions. These include a VR project from Schleswig-Holstein and an international co-production with Hamburg participation.

The shooting of İlker Çatak's new feature film "Yellow Letters" came to an end on Wednesday. The Director of the Oscar-nominated film "The Teachers' Lounge" has been filming in Hamburg and the surrounding area over the past few weeks. Hamburg's Senator for Culture and Media, Dr Carsten Brosda, visited the film set on the last day of shooting.

The Short Film and Innovative Committees of the MOIN Film Fund awarded 161,000 euros to four projects at the current meeting. These include the Icelandic co-production "Deep Sea Blue" by Hilke Rönnfeldt from Schleswig-Holstein and the interactive VR experience "Golems" by Kiel-based XR artists Deborah and Dennis Reinmüller.

Red carpet and the latest film funding figures: On Tuesday, the northern film industry came together for the annual "MOIN Midsummer" festival at Kampnagel. Around 1,000 guests from film and TV, culture and politics included Cannes winner Mohammad Rasoulof, the "Sløborn" team Aaron Hilmer and Emily Kusche as well as "Die Discounter" Emil Belton, Oskar Belton and Bruno Alexander. Lots of information was provided by MOIN CEO Helge Albers and Senator for Culture Dr Carsten Brosda, who reviewed the film year to date.

Eleven film theatres in Schleswig-Holstein have been awarded the state's cinema prize this year. On Wednesday (12 June), State Secretary for Culture Guido Wendt presented the certificates at the award ceremony in Kiel and praised the cinema landscape in Schleswig-Holstein as an integral and indispensable part of a diverse cultural offering.

The Hamburg-produced family drama "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" by Mohammad Rasoulof has won the Special Jury Prize at this year's 77th Cannes International Film Festival. The honour is one of the most important awards at the festival. Rasoulof was able to accept the award in person in Cannes on Saturday after a dangerous escape from Iran.

The German Film Awards 2024 were presented in Berlin on Friday evening. The winners of the evening included the film "Sterben" (Dying) by Matthias Glasner, which was shot in Hamburg, with four awards - including the LOLA in gold for best feature film - and "Im toten Winkel" by Hamburg filmmaker Ayşe Polat with three awards.

Hamburg Media School, MOIN Film Fund and the City of Hamburg are continuing their GetOnSet film trainee programme for the third year. The practical programme remains an important tool for tackling the shortage of skilled workers in the film and series industry.
