FUNDINGS PRODUCTION

The near-future reality TV show Hygge (363,000 euros, Klinkerfilm Production, Hamburg) is the subject of the film of the same name by Directors duo Lena Fakler and Zarah Schrade: Levi and her partner Minu take part in a reality format that promotes a life in cosy island homes and small families. While Minu quickly feels at home, Levi finds it difficult to integrate into everyday life on the show. At some point, she decides to escape and find happiness beyond the fence that surrounds Hygge. Twelve days of filming are planned in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Shooting starts in October. The script is also by Fakler and Schrade. The film is being made as part of the "Nordlichter" programme for young talent by NDR, nordmedia and MOIN Film Fund.

The filmmakers Philipp Hartmann from Hamburg and Danilo Carvalho from Brazil deal with political cinema in their new documentary Cinema Popular (90,000 euros, Flumenfilm, Hamburg): the historical expedition of a German naturalist through Brazil is told from the perspective of the locals 200 years later.

In Elephants in the Fog (65,000 euros, zischlermann filmproduktion, Lübeck), filmmaker Abinash Bikram Shah tells the story of Pirati, who is the matriarch of a community of transgender women in a small Nepalese village in the middle of a forest. Editing and post production will take place in Hamburg. The international co-production Life in the Shadows (30,000 euros, Jyoti Film, Hamburg) by Director and Script Writer K.D. deals with the consequences of a bomb attack at a school. A further 30,000 euros will go to A Hole in the Wall (Inselfilm Produktion, Berlin) by Hamburg-based Director and Script Writer Arjun Talwar. The documentary is a poetic and humorous reflection on loss, home and European migration policy. In Bond of Hopes (30,000 euros, brave new work, Hamburg), filmmaker Ljuba Todorova poses the question of what it means to be a teenager in today's world.
