GetOnSet enters its third round

29.04.2024 | Applications possible until 17 June 2024

Hamburg Media School, MOIN Film Fund and the City of Hamburg are continuing their GetOnSet film trainee programme for the third year. The practical programme remains an important tool for tackling the shortage of skilled workers in the film and series industry.

The majority of GetOnSet graduates were able to gain a foothold in the film industry after completing the training programme. Around 85% of former trainees now work in permanent positions at one of the partner companies or as freelancers.

GetOnSet offers career changers the opportunity to learn professions such as unit managers, sound assistants or camera assistants. Professionals aged 25 and over who are looking to enter the film industry can apply now at hamburgmediaschool.com/further-training/getonset

Dr Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media: "If you are looking for good professionals, you have to offer them long-term prospects for personal and professional development. This is especially true on the sets of films and series: This is where the skills and creativity of many different people are needed to successfully realise projects. The 'GetOnSet' trainee programme shows how new professionals can be inspired to work on set. Now in its third year, the programme creates an easy access for people who want to turn their passion for film into a career and at the same time strengthens Hamburg as a media location."

Social Senator Melanie Schlotzhauer: "The high demand for skilled labour does not stop at the film industry, and creative ideas and projects are needed to meet this demand. I am therefore very pleased that GetOnSet has proven its worth and is now entering its third round. With the trainee programme, we are helping Hamburg's film industry to attract skilled workers, but we are also supporting citizens who want to reorient themselves in the changing world of work."

Helge Albers, CEO of MOIN Film Fund: "The shortage of skilled labour is still noticeable in the northern German film and series landscape. In addition, due to demographic change, it is foreseeable that the issue will become more acute. For us, GetOnSet is an important building block in the development of an efficient and sustainable film and media location in the north. It is an innovative programme that now serves as a beacon project for the whole of Germany."

The programme provides participants with the skills they need to successfully enter the film industry. Participants will work for ten months in one of the partner companies and gain practical experience. In the accompanying seminars at the Hamburg Media School, they will learn the basics of film-specific topics such as "film history", "film law" and "costing" from experienced lecturers from the industry.

Dr Katharina Schaefer, President of Hamburg Media School: "The majority of the 15 participants in the first round have retained their connection to the film industry. Some already have permanent positions with our partner companies, while others are working as freelancers. This trend is already becoming apparent in the second year of the programme, which is still ongoing. GetOnSet is proving to be a pioneering programme, not only within Hamburg, but also throughout Germany. GetOnSet has successfully established itself as a pioneering programme for young talent within the industry."

The closing date for applications is 17 June and the programme starts in October. Further information on the application requirements and the programme can be found on the official website of the Hamburg Media School.
