From green scripts to sustainable production
Since 2012, MOIN Film Fund has been committed to an ecological and sustainable rethink in the film industry. In order to take the entire value chain of a project into account, we currently use the two complementary initiatives "Ecological Standards" and "Green Filming Badge":
The production of cinema, TV and online/VoD productions causes high CO₂ emissions. However, by switching to a more environmentally friendly and resource-efficient production method, a significant proportion of these CO₂ emissions can be avoided.
This is why the "Green Shooting" working group, the State Minister for Culture and the Media, the film funding organisations of the federal states and the German Federal Film Board (FFA) have agreed on uniform ecological standards for audiovisual production throughout Germany.
These ecological standards are based on the minimum ecological standards of the "Green Shooting" working group, which came into force on 1 January 2022, and apply EXCLUSIVELY to the production sector. Since 1 July 2023, compliance with the new ecological standards has been a nationwide requirement for all publicly funded cinema, TV and online/VoD productions in Germany.
The participating institutions can make this commitment visible with the "Green Motion" label. For a production to be awarded the "Green Motion" label, at least 16 of these requirements must be met (18 from 1 July 2024).

Since April 2020, the Green Filming Badge has been a sustainability check for the areas of development, distribution and cinema measures. All subsidised productions that are primarily financed in Germany and are shot in Germany must therefore meet ecologically sustainable criteria.

Green Storytelling Checklist
