Since 1950 has the state parliament its location in the country house in Kiel that is widely visible from the Kieler fjord. The housing is under monumental protection and was originally created for the navy academy of the emperor. The plenary in the glass annex at the water side has been used for plenary sessions of the parliament and government since 2003. Exhibitions, readings and discussions give the public a chance for a visitation of the country house.
The Kiel Campus is located in the centre of the city, directly at the Kiel Fjord. The 22 hectare large area offers about 1200 beds in 615 rooms. The hole area is 193.000 square metres large.
